San Francisco dedicated server for the West Coast and across the Pacific

A San Francisco dedicated server is a whole machine of your own in Digital Realty's facility at 720 2nd Street in Oakland, on the east shore of the Bay. It is our room for California and the West Coast, and our shortest trip towards Asia and Oceania. Choose from 8 server lines, billed monthly in US dollars.

No contract. A machine already in the rack is yours about 30 minutes after the order is approved, and a build to order takes 4 to 24 hours when we hold the parts.

01Who it suits

West Coast bare metal, and who it is for

Every other room we have is on the East Coast or in Europe, so San Francisco is the one to choose when your users live west of the Rockies or on the far side of the Pacific.

  • 01

    Apps and APIs for California

A web app, an API or a database answering users in Los Angeles, Seattle or the Bay itself saves a cross-country trip on every request when it runs here rather than in the East.

  • 02

    Users in Asia and Oceania

Of our five rooms this is the nearest to Japan, Korea, Australia and the rest of the Pacific. If those users matter to you, time this room against New York on the board above and see the gap.

  • 03

Build and test machines for Bay Area teams

Bay Area server hosting close enough to your office that remote sessions feel local: build servers, CI runners and staging copies on a whole machine, with root access and no neighbours.

  • 04

A second coast for your service

Run one server here and one in New York and each half of the country gets the nearer one. Both are billed the same way, in dollars, on the same account.

Two promises about the network

Your port is not shared with any other customer at the access switch, and nothing meters the traffic that crosses it. For a user in Asia, a ping to this address next to one to New York, 162.244.81.236, shows the difference the coast makes.

03The lines

What we build in San Francisco

San Francisco builds 8 lines, from cartridges to four-socket rack servers, and 2 of them can take a graphics card. A row's price is the entry build of that line, its parts listed beneath, per month in dollars. Whatever you change in the configurator is priced from that starting point.

A configured order is built for you and pays the setup fee on its row, once. The fastest port on offer here is 100 Gbps, and 10 Gbps is $529 a month on the lines that have it. Want a line San Francisco does not build? The city comparison shows which room has it.

05Terms

What a San Francisco server comes with

Primcast LLC invoices it in US dollars, monthly. California sales tax is not added; the only US sales tax we charge is New York State's, on software licenses, when the billing address is in that state.

Included

  • The whole machine, with root or Administrator access and no other customer on it
  • An unmetered port that is not shared at the access switch
  • One IPv4 address and IPv6
  • No contract; 3, 6 or 12 months paid at once is 5%, 10% or 15% cheaper, software licenses excepted
  • Card, PayPal, ACH, bank transfer or cryptocurrency
  • Support on chat: our AI answers in seconds and can check your server for you, and a person takes over whenever you ask

Not promised

  • No DDoS protection, as a feature or as an extra
  • No uptime percentage. The service agreement credits a day of the monthly charge for each cumulative hour the network is down, once an outage passes 15 consecutive minutes, up to a month
  • A failed part is replaced in the time your support tier states: 24 hours on the included tier, down to 2 hours on the fastest paid one (compare the tiers)
  • No brand-new hardware. These are enterprise machines, many a generation or more old, and priced that way

06Questions

Questions about a San Francisco dedicated server

01Is San Francisco or New York better for my users?

San Francisco when they are on the West Coast, in the Mountain states or across the Pacific; New York when they are in the East or in Europe. For users spread across the whole country, you can run one server on each coast. The board at the top of this page times both rooms from your own connection.

02How long until a San Francisco server is ready?

About 30 minutes after the order is approved, for a machine already in the rack. A build to order takes 4 to 24 hours when we hold the parts, 5 to 10 working days when a part has to be bought in, and 10 to 15 for a scarce one. The payment check comes first and is the part that varies.

03Are the San Francisco servers actually in San Francisco?

They are across the Bay, in Digital Realty's facility at 720 2nd Street in Oakland, in the same metro area. It has more than 15 transit carriers, N+1 redundancy on UPS and cooling, and biometric and card access with guards on site. The operator lists SOC 2, SOC 3 and PCI DSS.

04Is the bandwidth in San Francisco unmetered?

Yes. Nothing counts the traffic on your port, and the port is not shared with any other customer at the access switch. Each line includes 1 Gbps or 500 Mbps, and the order form goes up to 100 Gbps.

05How is a San Francisco server billed?

Monthly, in US dollars, by Primcast LLC, with no contract. Pay by card, PayPal, ACH, bank transfer or cryptocurrency, and pay 3, 6 or 12 months at once to make it 5%, 10% or 15% cheaper, software licenses excepted.

06Can I rent a San Francisco server by the hour?

Yes, any machine already racked, taken as it stands; its hourly rate is under its monthly price on the shelf above. A configured build is billed by the month.

07What if the network goes down or a part fails?

Once the network has been down for more than 15 consecutive minutes, the service agreement credits you a day of the monthly charge for every cumulative hour that month, up to one month. A failed part is replaced within the time your support tier states, 24 hours on the included one.
