What streaming software can I use to broadcast live audio?
You can stream live audio using a wide range of software encoders including Mixxx, VirtualDJ PRO, Simplecast, Edcast, BUTT (Broadcast Using This Tool), SHOUTcast DSP, and CasterX. How do I connect my streaming software to a SHOUTcast or Icecast server?
In your encoder settings, enter the server hostname and port number from the email that activated your station, and the source password and mount point from Centova Cast under Settings; on Icecast the username is source. Most software labels these fields as Host, Port, Password, and Mount. Our tutorials for each encoder walk you through exactly where to find and enter these values.
Why does my stream keep disconnecting or dropping?
Disconnections are most often caused by an unstable internet connection, incorrect bitrate settings, or a firewall blocking the streaming port. Check that your upload speed comfortably exceeds your stream bitrate, verify the port is open on your network, and ensure your encoder credentials match your activation email and Centova Cast exactly.
Can I stream using a hardware encoder instead of software?

How do I get my station listed in the SHOUTcast directory?
By asking support while your stream is live. New stations run on Icecast, which shoutcast.com does not list, so support first switches yours to SHOUTcast DNAS 2.6.1 on the same plan, at the same price. Keep your encoder connected, and support will create a free authhash for the station from the server's admin page and turn the server's directory setting from private to public. The public checkbox in your encoder does nothing by itself, because our server configuration overrides it. The directory listing tutorial above walks through each step.
