Radio station apps

Your station's own app, on phones and in the car

Give your listeners an app with your station's name and logo on iPhone, iPad and Android, with CarPlay and Android Auto built in. It goes into the App Store and Google Play under your name, and it comes with the Premium and Platinum radio plans at no extra cost.

The only fees are Apple's and Google's, for store accounts in your own name.

What your listeners get

We read what people praise and what they complain about in station apps, and built in the things listeners ask for most.

No ads. No logins. No tracking.

Listeners open the app and your station starts playing. We put no ads in it, nobody has to create an account, and it collects no personal data about the people listening.

Three steps to the stores

  1. Fill in your station profile. Add your logo, a square image at least 1024 pixels across, and your details: website, social pages and how listeners can reach the studio.
  2. Generate the apps. In your control panel, choose the app's name and colours, then build. Android comes back ready to upload. iPhone comes as a ready Xcode project that you build and upload on a Mac.
  3. Publish them under your own name. Our step-by-step guides take you through Google Play and the App Store, one screen at a time.

After that, the app keeps up with your station on its own. Add a stream, change this week's schedule or a phone number, and listeners see it without you publishing anything.

Your app, in your name

You publish the apps from your own Apple and Google accounts, so the store pages, the reviews and the download figures belong to your station, not to us. You pick the name, the logo and the colours.

Our mark is a small "Powered by Primcast" line on the player screen. Everything else in the app carries your station's name.

What you'll need

  • An Apple Developer account$99 a year, paid to Apple
  • A Google Play developer account$25 once, paid to Google
  • A Mac with Xcode, for the iPhone appXcode is free
  • The apps themselvesIncluded in your plan

Which stations get the apps

The apps come with the Premium and Platinum radio plans, and with our older paid radio plans as well. Song requests in the app need Platinum. The free plan doesn't include apps.

Your station needs to run on our current radio platform. If it still runs on an older one, the apps open up as soon as it moves, and we're happy to talk you through the move in chat.

Your apps are waiting in the control panel, under Apps. Each of your stations has its own app there, with a preview, the build buttons and the publishing guides.

Questions stations ask

Do I need a Mac?

For the iPhone and iPad app, yes. Apple only accepts apps built in Xcode, which runs on a Mac, so we hand you a ready project and you build and upload it there. For the Android app, no: it comes ready to upload to Google Play from any computer.

Who owns the app?

You do. It's published from your own Apple and Google developer accounts, so the listing, the reviews and the download numbers are yours, and listeners see your station on the store page.

Can I change my logo later?

Yes. Change it in your station profile and the app shows the new logo by itself. The icon on the phone's home screen is part of the app you uploaded, so a new icon means building again and publishing an update.

Do you put ads in it?

No. There are no ads in the app, nobody has to sign up to listen, and it doesn't track your listeners, for you or for us.

What about CarPlay?

Apple approves CarPlay for each audio app. You request it through Apple's CarPlay form, and the answer can take one to three weeks. Once Apple says yes, switch on "Apple has approved CarPlay" in your control panel, build again and upload the new version; our App Store guide shows each step. Android Auto needs no request: you switch it on in Google Play.

Do I republish the app when my schedule or streams change?

No. The app reads your station's details when it opens and every ten minutes while it runs, so new streams, schedule changes, podcasts and links reach listeners without an update. You only build again to change what the stores show, like the icon or the app's name, or to get a newer version of the app.

Put your station in your listeners' pockets.
