Wowza dedicated server Your own machine, with the engine set up for you

A Wowza dedicated server from Primcast is a physical server that belongs to your account alone, with Wowza Streaming Engine installed, licensed and looked after by a person on our team, usually within 24 hours of your payment being verified.

You send the stream, we keep the engine running. The port is yours alone at the switch, and nothing counts the traffic that leaves it, so a busy month costs the same as a quiet one.

Machines you can order

Pick the server, keep Wowza on the order

Each machine below is priced for a full month with the Wowza licence and its management already added, so the figure you see is the figure you pay each month. Open one to change memory, disks or port speed before you check out; the one-time installation shows on the order page.

Each machine has a port of its own, and the list shows its speed. If your audience needs more, the order form sells faster ports, and our 10 Gbps page explains what the step up costs.

Wowza server requirements

Wowza hardware requirements, side by side with our servers

Wowza asks for at least a quad-core processor at 3 GHz, 4 GB of memory and a 1 Gbps network card. For heavy use it asks for six cores, 16 to 32 GB of memory, an SSD and 10 Gbps. Here is how that lines up with what you can order.

Wowza’s figures come from its Streaming Engine technical specifications, read on 22 October 2026. Wowza supports Red Hat, Ubuntu and SUSE Linux and current Windows releases, and certifies the engine on Java 21. If you knew it as Wowza Media Server, that was its name before version 4; the requirements here are for today’s engine.

01Passing streams through

Spend on the port

If your encoder already sends the qualities you want, Wowza only repackages them for viewers. The processor stays calm, and the number of people you can serve depends on the port.

02Making several qualities

Spend on cores or encoding chips

Turning one feed into 1080p, 720p and 480p is the heavy job. Wowza does it on the processor, so more cores means more channels. For many channels at once, a GPU transcoding server does it in hardware.

03Recording and replays

Spend on disk space

Recordings and on-demand files sit on your server’s own disks. One hour at 6 Mbps is about 2.7 GB, so size the disks for the hours you plan to keep.

Wowza Streaming Engine pricing

What a Wowza Streaming Engine server costs each month

You pay for two things: the machine, and the Wowza licence with our management. The licence line is $195/mo per server, and installing the engine is $29.99 once.

Bought straight from Wowza, the Basic Monthly plan lists at $195 a month per instance (wowza.com/pricing, read on 22 October 2026). That buys the software only: you would still need a server, and installing the engine and keeping it running would be your job.

Paying for three, six or twelve months at once lowers the price of the machine, not the licence. Software lines cost the same each month whatever the billing cycle, and the order page shows the real saving before you pay.

Already have a Wowza licence of your own? Order the machine without the Wowza line and install it yourself. You get full root access either way.

Who looks after what

We keep Wowza running, you run your streams

Management means the engine is our problem. A person on our team installs Wowza Streaming Engine, applies the licence and keeps the service up; if it stops, getting it back is our job. You keep root access, so your applications, players and scripts stay in your hands.

What we take care of

  • Installing the engine and its licence
  • Keeping the Wowza service running
  • The hardware, power and network behind it
  • Replacing failed hardware, as set out in our service agreement

What stays yours

  • Live and on-demand applications
  • Stream targets to YouTube, Facebook and others, as in our Wowza Facebook Live tutorial
  • DRM through Wowza partners such as Verimatrix, EZDRM and BuyDRM
  • Your player and your website

What we do not sell

  • Protection from DDoS attacks: put a scrubbing service or a CDN in front if you need one
  • An uptime percentage: the agreement pays credits instead
  • A long contract: it is month to month

Help is one chat away. An AI assistant answers within seconds and can look up your account and check your server; ask for a person and one joins the conversation. Faster response tiers are from $9 a month.

Viewers and Wowza clusters

How many people can watch from one Wowza server?

Multiply your viewers by the bitrate each one plays, and keep the total under 80 percent of the port. That headroom is Wowza’s own sizing advice, and it is what keeps the picture steady when the most people are watching.

When one port is no longer enough, grow into a Wowza cluster. One server, the origin, receives your encoder; edge servers pull the stream from it and serve viewers from their own ports. Each server runs its own copy of Wowza and needs its own licence. Tell us your audience in chat before you order and we will help you size the origin and the edges.

Live in three steps

  1. Choose a machine

Pick a server from the list. It opens in the configurator with the Wowza licence already selected.

  2. We set up Wowza

Once your payment is verified, we install the engine and email your login details, usually within 24 hours. Check your spam folder if they seem late.

  3. Start streaming

Point OBS, vMix or a hardware encoder at your server over RTMP or SRT. Our Wowza Streaming Engine tutorial walks you through it.

Questions

What people ask before ordering a Wowza server

01What are the Wowza server requirements?

Wowza Streaming Engine needs at least one quad-core processor at 3 GHz or faster, 4 GB of memory, a SATA disk and 1 Gbps Ethernet. For high load, Wowza recommends six cores at 3 GHz or faster, 16 to 32 GB of memory, a SATA SSD and 10 Gbps Ethernet, on 64-bit Linux or Windows with Java 17 or 21.

02What Wowza hardware do I need for my audience?

Start with the network, because that is usually the limit. At 1080p and 6 Mbps per viewer, a 1 Gbps port carries about 133 people at once and a 10 Gbps port about 1,330. Add processor cores only if the server makes extra qualities, and disk space only if it records.

03How much does Wowza Streaming Engine cost?

With us, the Wowza licence and its management cost $195/mo per server on top of the machine, plus $29.99 once for installation. Bought directly, Wowza lists its Basic Monthly plan at $195 a month per instance, without a server or anyone to set it up.

04Is the Wowza licence included in the server price?

It is its own line on the invoice, and the prices in the list on this page already include it. Longer billing cycles discount the machine but not the licence.

05Can I use my own Wowza licence?

Yes. Order the server without the Wowza line and install the engine yourself with root access. You then pay Wowza directly and run the engine yourself.

06How do I build a Wowza cluster?

Use one origin server that takes your encoder and several edge servers that pull from it and serve viewers. Every server in the cluster needs its own Wowza licence. Tell us the size of your audience in chat and we will suggest how many edges you need.

07How soon is my Wowza server ready?

Usually within 24 hours of your payment being verified. A person installs Wowza Streaming Engine and emails you the login details.

08Where are your Wowza servers?

In New York, Miami, San Francisco, Amsterdam and Bucharest. Each machine in the list shows the cities you can order it in.

09Do I need a dedicated server, or is Wowza hosting enough?

If you stream one channel and want nothing to administer, start on the free plan of our video CDN; our Wowza hosting page explains how it compares. Choose a dedicated server when you want the whole engine, your own applications and settings, and as many viewers as your port can carry.

10Can I move away from Wowza later?

Yes. Cue Media Server, the streaming engine we build, keeps Wowza’s playback addresses and REST API and can import a Wowza server’s setup. Other engines, such as Nimble Streamer or Flussonic, run on the same machines; see dedicated streaming servers.
