Publish your Smart TV app on Samsung TVs

Samsung TV apps are published through Samsung Seller Office. Before your first build you create two Samsung certificates in Tizen Studio. Then you upload the package from your control panel and Samsung certifies it, which usually takes a few weeks.

New sellers launch in the US Your own Samsung certificates Certification takes a few weeks

Step by step

Where you can launch: new Seller Office members are public sellers, and public sellers can publish in the United States only. To reach viewers in other countries you need partner status, which you arrange with Samsung.

1

Join Samsung Seller Office

  1. Go to seller.samsungapps.com/tv and sign in with your Samsung account, or create one.
  2. Ask to join as a seller, with your station's or your company's details. Samsung reviews the request before you can register apps.
  3. If your viewers are mostly outside the United States, ask Samsung about partner status as soon as your account is open, since it can take a while.
2

Install Tizen Studio

  1. Download Tizen Studio from the Tizen developer site and install it. If you prefer Visual Studio Code, its Tizen extension has the same Certificate Manager.
  2. Open the Package Manager and, on the Extension SDK tab, install the Samsung Certificate Extension if it isn't there yet. Without it, the next step won't offer Samsung certificates.
3

Create your author and distributor certificates

  1. In Tizen Studio, open Tools → Certificate Manager and press + to make a new certificate profile.
  2. Choose Samsung as the certificate type and TV as the device type.
  3. Create a new author certificate: give it a name and a password, then sign in with your Samsung account when asked.
  4. Create the distributor certificate next. Choose the Public privilege level unless Samsung has made you a partner.
  5. Certificate Manager saves each certificate as a .p12 file and shows you the folder. Write down both passwords.

Keep your author certificate for as long as the app exists. Samsung accepts an update only when it's signed with the same author certificate as the first version. Back up the file and its password somewhere safe: without them, you can't update the app.

4

Build the Samsung package

  1. In your control panel, open your TV app's Samsung certificates card and add both .p12 files with their passwords.
  2. Under Build your apps, build Samsung. It takes a few minutes, and the page updates by itself.
  3. Download the Samsung package (.wgt).

Prefer to sign it yourself? Without certificates in the panel, the build gives you the Tizen source (.zip) to sign in Tizen Studio instead.

5

Register the app in Seller Office

  1. In Seller Office, create a new app and upload your .wgt as its package.
  2. Add the images from the samsung folder of your Store images download: icon-512x423.png, logo-1920x1080.png and background-1920x1080.jpg.
  3. Add four screenshots at 1920 by 1080 pixels. You can take them in the TV emulator that comes with Tizen Studio, or on a Samsung TV.
  4. Fill in your description, the privacy policy address from your control panel, and anything else Seller Office asks for, such as a short description of how the app is used.
6

Request certification

  1. Give Samsung's testers what they need. The app needs no sign-in, so say so, and tell them when your channel is live. If you have videos, mention that they play at any time.
  2. Request certification. Samsung tests the app on its TVs, and it usually takes a few weeks.
  3. When it passes, Seller Office lets you release it.

Common reasons an app comes back: the Back button not behaving the way Samsung expects, and missing test details. The app already follows Samsung's rules for the Back button, so the most useful thing you can do is fill in the test details fully.

7

Updates later

To publish a new version, build Samsung again in your control panel with the same author certificate, upload the new .wgt in Seller Office and request certification again. New videos, a new logo and changed links don't need an update: the app picks them up by itself.
