FAQ

Common questions about setting up Audio Hijack on macOS for live audio streaming with Primcast.

Where do I find my server hostname, port and password?

Log into your Primcast dashboard, click Login to Centova, then go to Quick Links and scroll to Live Source Connections for the hostname and port. The streaming password is found under Settings - click the reveal button next to the source password field.

Do I need to purchase Audio Hijack or can I use the demo?

You can use the demo version to test the setup, but the demo adds a static noise overlay to your stream after a period of time. For uninterrupted broadcasting, the full version of Audio Hijack is required.

What audio sources can Audio Hijack capture?

Audio Hijack can capture audio from virtually any macOS application including iTunes, Spotify, Chrome, Safari, and system audio. You can also use a microphone or any connected input device as your audio source for live broadcasts.

What bitrate should I select for my stream?

For DSL or Cable listeners, 64 to 128 kbps MP3 is recommended for good quality. For lower-bandwidth situations, 32 kbps is acceptable. Higher bitrates are generally not necessary and may cause buffering issues for some listeners.

Do I need a paid Primcast plan to stream?

Yes, you need an active Primcast radio streaming plan which provides the server credentials used in this tutorial. Visit our Radio Streaming page to view available plans and get started.
